Our team - Gisma

Our team

Prof. Dr. Gisela Schmalz

Director of the Gisma–Kingston University Double Degree Programmes.

Prof. Dr. Gisela Schmalz studied Philosophy and Economics in Bonn, Berlin, and New York. She has extensive academic experience, having taught Strategic Management, Digital Marketing, and Business Ethics at several renowned universities. At Gisma, she serves as the Director of the Gisma–Kingston University Double Degree Programmes.

She co-founded the political platform Respublica e.V. in Berlin and has contributed to notable research initiatives, including the Google Collaboratory (Berlin) and the Ethical-Ecological Rating project (Frankfurt am Main). In addition, she developed and implemented mediadb.eu, a comprehensive database covering major media and technology companies.

Prof. Schmalz currently heads the Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Philosophie (German Society for Philosophy). She is the author of several books, including Mein fremder Wille (2020) and Fetisch Intelligenz (2026).

Her research lies at the intersection of economics, technology, and philosophy, examining the strategic, societal, and ethical dimensions of digital transformation.
