Prof. Dr. Dr. Varun Gupta Recognised Among World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2025
Gisma University of Applied Sciences proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of Prof. Dr. Dr. Varun Gupta, Professor of Digital Innovation and Director of the Multidisciplinary Research Centre for Innovations in SMEs (MrciS), who has been recognised among the world’s leading researchers in the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List 2025.
The Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List is one of the most prestigious global rankings of researchers, recognising scholars whose citation impact places them among the top 2% in their respective fields. Compiled annually using Elsevier’s Scopus data and Stanford University’s methodology, it evaluates researchers across 22 disciplines and 174 subfields, considering factors such as total citations, h-index, co-authorship, and authorship positions.
Prof. Gupta’s inclusion in this elite group highlights his exceptional contributions to research, innovation, and knowledge advancement. His work focuses on digital innovation and the growth and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Through his leadership at MrciS, he has fostered interdisciplinary research that bridges academia and industry, delivering practical, high-impact solutions to real-world challenges.
Now celebrating its third anniversary, the Multidisciplinary Research Centre for Innovations in SMEs (MrciS) has become a hub of research excellence driving innovation through international collaborations, funded projects, and high-quality academic publications that contribute meaningfully to the global research landscape.
Globally, the United States, China, and the United Kingdom lead the Stanford/Elsevier ranking, together accounting for over half of all listed scientists. Germany ranks fourth overall, contributing 4.5% of the world’s top researchers. In the Business and Management subfield, Germany is ranked 6th, with 69 leading researchers across 44 institutions. With Prof. Gupta’s recognition (and two additional faculty members joining the list later this year) Gisma University of Applied Sciences is positioned among Germany’s most research-active business schools relative to size.
“This recognition is a testament not only to Prof. Gupta’s dedication and research excellence but also to Gisma’s strong commitment to fostering a vibrant, impactful academic community,” said President Ramon O’Callaghan. “We are proud of our faculty’s contributions to advancing innovation and strengthening Germany’s global research reputation.”
