From Myanmar to Berlin: Kyi’s Story of Resilience, Growth, and Transformation

At Gisma University of Applied Sciences, every student journey reflects ambition, resilience, and transformation. Kyi Sin Hsu Thar, a master’s student in Data Science, AI and Digital Business, embodies this spirit through her inspiring path from Myanmar to Berlin on the Women in Tech Scholarship.

A journey driven by purpose

Kyi’s decision to apply for the Women in Tech Scholarship was deeply rooted in her personal experiences. Coming from a developing country, she has seen firsthand how limited opportunities in technology can be for women. Rather than being discouraged, she chose to turn this reality into motivation.

Her goal was not only to advance her academic journey but also to represent her country and encourage more young women to confidently pursue careers in STEM.

Beginning a new chapter in Berlin

Receiving the scholarship marked a significant turning point in her life. Moving to Berlin introduced her to a diverse, international academic environment and a new way of learning and living.

At Gisma, Kyi experienced an education model strongly focused on practical, hands-on learning in Data Science and AI. This approach enabled her to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges, strengthening both her technical expertise and analytical mindset.

Outside the classroom, her experience in Berlin has contributed significantly to her personal development fostering independence, cultural awareness, and adaptability in a global environment.

Growth through resilience

Kyi’s journey has not been without challenges, but each step has contributed to her growth and resilience. Reflecting on her experience, she shares a perspective that continues to guide her:

“What does not kill us makes us stronger. We may not always win, and we may often lose, but as long as we are learning, we are never truly defeated.”

This belief captures her approach to learning and life, viewing every challenge as an opportunity for growth.

Advice to future students

For those considering a similar path, Kyi offers a message of encouragement:

“Believe in yourself, stay authentic, trust your potential, and never hesitate to pursue opportunities that can change your life.”

A story still unfolding

Kyi’s journey reflects the essence of Gisma’s mission: empowering global talent to learn, lead, and create impact beyond borders.

From Myanmar to Berlin, her story is one of courage, growth, and continuous learning a journey still unfolding, with much more yet to come.
