Career and employability services

Successfully combining theory with practice, GISMA bridges the gap between conventional university study and the shifting requirements of today’s global marketplace. GISMA’s graduates have aspired to work in a number of sectors such as banking, financial services, engineering, mechanical engineering, oil and gas, information technology, consulting and business services.

We provide a range of group and individual services which increase students’ professional and personal development and maximise their chances of landing a job in the German labour market after graduation.

Here are some of the career and employability services our Careers Centre has to offer:

Career training

Career training helps students to understand what skills and competencies employers require and how to apply these in a professional context. All of our tutors are experienced and well-connected within the business world. Our courses focus on the following topics:

  • German business culture
  • Job application and job search
  • Self-marketing
  • Networking skills
  • Negotiation
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Decision making
  • Conflict management
  • Leadership
Mock interviews

Once our students get invited for a job interview/telephone interview, they receive a professional mock interview session in order to refine their interview skills. Mock interviews resemble real job interviews and provide a confidence boost for candidates. Students receive practical tips relating to interview questions, answers and techniques. With students receiving valuable feedback and coaching on their performance, mock interviews are one of the very best ways to prepare for an actual job interview.

Individual coaching

Once students prepare their portfolio, they receive individual support with improving and tailoring their application for any position. In addition, we offer individual coaching sessions to discuss career related concerns.

We support our students in finding an internship or work placement. An internship is intended to provide students with the opportunity to become acquainted with German work and business culture, as well as to apply their knowledge, competencies and German language skills within a professional context. Internships offer students the chance to work in an applied setting and gain valuable practical experience, serving as preparation for taking up regular employment in the German labour market.

Company presentations

We regularly invite representatives from leading German (and international) companies to GISMA to present their businesses to students. Company presentations offer students the chance to learn about organisational values, strategies and recruitment possibilities, as well as the opportunity to network with company representatives for employment purposes.

Plant trips

We organise visits to leading companies for our students. During the plant trips, students get an insight into the real working environment within leading international companies based in the Hannover region.

We regularly organise networking events for students and companies at GISMA. During these events, students get the unique opportunity to work on certain topics and develop ideas in teams with company representatives.

Ramon Arturo Marquez Flores, MBA student

“Discovering what you really like and what matters is very important to your career path. Always having a second opinion from an experienced person will help you make better decisions. The GISMA coaching programme has helped me think and plan what I appreciate the most and where I want to get.”

Amir Khalilov, MBA student

“By completing an MBA programme, a student can become good at managing a business effectively, yet it is the different workshops and training organised by the Careers Centre during study that have an enormous effect in enabling students to develop interpersonal skills which will be helpful in professional and personal life. I have joined the Coaching Pool at GISMA to identify my interpersonal skill requirements and develop such skills. I expect from this activity to receive valuable advice from my coach, be able to follow them and achieve set targets at the end of the day. I’ve been able to determine my requirements and now know how to work on them. I am also benefiting from the group discussions on various interesting topics about careers and personal development.”
